Tricks Of Portrait Photography In Melbourne

By Enid Hinton

Everybody likes looking at a stunning photo. It could be the photograph of a friend, family member, model or even complete stranger. When photos are well taken, they will create some form of mystery and tell stories. In addition, they will come with good memories. These portraits reveal the true personality of a person. In considering portrait photography in Melbourne, some important ideas and tips come in handy. These will help to get the best outcomes.

One of the most important considerations is the background. The face of the person is the most important aspect when it comes to a portrait photo. Therefore, the background should not interfere with it. A simple background which is not very cluttered will be ideal. For some instances however, the surroundings should be considered to bring out the personality of the person. For example, the portrait photograph of a lawyer could be taken in his office with stacks of legal books.

The background does not however have to be prominent. It can be made to be dim or blurred by focusing on the subject. This applies to almost all portraits. This is made possible by use of a zoom lens and shooting from a short distance. There also is the option of using a wide aperture manual setting. Photoshop or any other relevant software may be used to blur the background too.

The aspect of light is equally important. A great appearance is achieved when the portrait is taken in natural light. There is also the added advantage of getting the right skin tones and natural colors. Control of the light however may be too difficult in most instances. To avoid unwanted brightness or shadows, the subject should not pose directly in front of the sun.

Shooting during mid-day should to be avoided as much as possible. For great outcomes, it is advisable to position the subject such that sunlight falls on it from the side. Reflectors or external flash could be used for lighting up some parts of the face. For indoor shooting, a soft and evenly distributed source of light should be used for lighting the subject.

The use of different apertures will be helpful. When the aperture is opened wide, the background will get blurred and thus the subject made to stand out. Smaller apertures give the screen a better focus. When taking a portrait, the main focus should be the eyes of the subject. The assumption that smiling faces make the best portraits is not true in all instances. It is best to capture various expressions while still focusing on the eyes.

The angle and pose will play a very important role. The subject looking straight at the camera while motionless can be boring. Having a flamboyant look, inviting smile or sexy expression are some options. To come up with the best results, it is important to experiment with different poses and angles.

Makeup is an important consideration. It covers any blemishes and also makes the face to glow and look even. The use of makeup gives a trendy or different look depending on the personality of the individual. Makeup also enhances confidence.
