TV: Have You Been Watching Addiction Shows Lately?

By Brian Kingoa

If you have been watching hit television shows like 20/20 or the Discovery Channel, you may have witnessed many stories covering addiction. Drug and alcohol addiction has everyone on edge these days. Politicians are often telling us that addiction is affecting families from all walks of life. If you have a son or daughter that is addicted to drugs and alcohol, then you probably know exactly what I am talking about. Addiction today is mostly comprised of alcohol, heroin and crack. You will find that addiction has many faces to it. You will find that a lot of addicts prefer working alongside of someone that has gone through recovery themselves.

Treatment today is a complex system because of the changing healthcare epidemic that we have in billing these days. Treatment centers all across the USA are trying to understand why certain things are not happening. It is effective to have people negotiating their price of stay at a rehabilitation center. However, it is becoming extremely difficult to have a treatment center take your insurance. Television shows are beginning to show the realities of rehab.

The founder of Alcoholics Anonymous (Bill Wilson), said that he was not able to stay sober until he incorporated his faith into his sobriety. It is important to understand that faith is often the true healing source for most addicts. Detox takes around 7 days. However, changing your mind to stay off of drugs takes a lot longer. Most addicts have to go through group therapy and pastoral counseling before they can fully stay away from drugs. No matter what you are going through, addiction seems to take a toll on the mind, body and soul. It is important to ask someone for help if you need it.

Getting treated for an alcohol and drug addiction takes time. It takes a lot for someone to understand addiction because it is something that a lot of people endure. If you know someone that needs help, it is best to try calling around. Call treatment centers that say, "Free 30 day stay for treatment." These rehabs are often funded by religious groups and rehabs across the United States. Many TV shows have addicts fighting to stay alive. You get to see the entire picture of what it is to get high every day.

When an addict calls a rehabilitation treatment center, they are often turned away because the medical biller tells them that their insurance is not covered at the treatment center. In order to stop this, there has to be a program set up that helps addicts to find the right treatment facility that they can use their medical insurance with.
