The Character Behind Extreme Impressionism

By Pamela King

Different artists portray a distinct character in their works. While this gives liberty to an artist to communicate the message behind their masterpiece however they please, Extreme Impressionism has its own character that sets it apart from other forms of paintings. To the plain eye, the compelling blend of light colors on the canvas of an impressionist simply upholds it as the most beautiful type of art.

Most people have divided views on what impressionism really is. Some think that it is a collection of artworks. Extreme-impressionism as a movement, is not the most revolutionary artistic style among the French. It is simply an idea shared among artists who have the same approach to their works. Hence, their paintings have a common character. Most notably, Claude Monet came up with ideas about realism, that until now, have formed the basis of works by realistic arts.

Historians acknowledge that realism in artistic representations of Plein arts, as in extreme-impressionism, was first started by the Romantics, early in the nineteenth century. Their search for an authentic and realistic paintings of a natural environment added a distinct value to their works. Progressively, this form of art gained ground across Europe and to other global horizons.

What inspires most when one views compelling art works by an impressionist, is the distinct emphasis given to objects to recreate them as they appear in real life. An artist does this through spontaneous and rapidly stroked brush lines, with their minds fixated on how light influences appearances of certain objects within the scope. Hence, their art will capture fleeting moments. Just as their color may change due to light, so will an artist paint it.

As earlier stated, light has a lot to do with extreme-impressionism. When reflected, or disintegrated, light falls on objects, and it gives them a totally different character in the perspective of a painter. Artists who are part of impressionist movements are normally intuitive. This characteristic enables them observe how variance of luminosity brings about different shades of light on objects. Unlike other paintings. Realistic art is not influenced by emotions, but by intuition.

Colors play an important role in landscape visual impressions on canvas. Early Romantism made use of dark pigments which failed to bring out the intended purpose. That made the next generation of artists to limit themselves to an array of bright colors ranging from; orange, red, green blue, crimson and violet. However, extreme realistic artist had a great degree of intuition, which allowed them to study the physical characteristics, and other scientific forces that aided their works.

Impressionism, as a matter of fact, did not hatch any school. It neither had a clear manifesto, nor set standards on how to paint. In simple terms, it comprises a series of art groups made up of artists whose trajectory of thought in regard to their works are parallel. Regardless, each of them is always very cautious not to compromise their individuality as far as their works go.

Extreme-impressionism had a great impact on the historical schools in the Western front. Though not equally revolutionary as other movements such as Cubism or Surrealism, the character of realistic landscape paintings drew an entirely new approach to painting that depicted nature as it was.
