A Baby Photographer For Your Family Photoshoot

By Jose Thomas

The halcyon days of infancy are as soon upon you as they fritter away and never to be recalled again. Therefore, parents would naturally want to document this time of their lives of their child and thereafter forever to be treasured. Of course, they can click away by themselves. But if they want it to be worthwhile, theyd likely hire a Baby Photographer in Washington DC.

What makes baby photographer a different category from others. Well, first off, this is really a whole job by itself. Just by the keyword itself, that is, babies, then you can really tell that this is a right old job, indeed. After all, unlike the grown up subjects were used to, these little tykes are not at all what youd tag as cooperative or participative.

For example, newborn babies are really more manageable than months old ones, which have the attention span of a gnat. Some children are easier to delve in some positions more than others. Some can be really chronically sulky and know how to get their way. Its not exactly a far fetched proposition when we say that the disposition, or more to the point, the age of the baby, will have a say on how the session will run.

Let the photographer demonstrate the settings to you or else have a rundown on the captured photos so far, so that he or she has a general idea on what appeals to you. It might be harder to single one out immediately because most photographers just click away, with about five or so photos in just a couple of seconds. Thats great, though, because thats the nub of a snapshot. They capture split second moments that are just picture perfect.

With a months old baby, however, theres a wider scope to creativity. Babies in this stage are more personable and capable of a whole range of expressions. Therefore, they can be more participative and cooperative. However, they can as easily go to the opposite direction and choose not to participate or cooperate, and the results can be DISASTROUS. So theres a good and a bad in each option.

Parents usually opt to have the photography session when the baby is sleepy. In this way, they will be more pliable. So as to get the arrangements down pat, set the appointment beforehand, even when the mother is still one week before the due date. In that way, if you have a reservation, youll be saved from no shows and cancellations. Its for a newborn, after all, so you can generalize all you want, as long as its within one week.

Apertures are great value here, the wider the better. With this, you can get away from the noise and clutter in the background, and just turn them into assets. Therefore, whats in focus is the baby itself, plus some neutral colored cloth, whether white, beige, or grey. Select the fitting kind of aperture and then click away. Assess the light condition in the place, and toggle the ISO when necessary.

Experiment. You can vamp up the saturation and contrast. Or you can go to the opposite end of the spectrum and go for monochrome. Consider black and white, which is good when youre angling for the classic. For always, consider the lighting and manipulate accordingly because thats what will bestow the dramatic effect. First and foremost is the safety and comfort of the baby, so make good sure that its supervised all the time.

The photographer will have to consult the parents on what they like and expect. However, theres always that expression called Surprise Me. This is a creative enterprise, after all. And sometimes the photographer might just shell out something that the clients did not expect but then goes on to be the jewel of the collection, so to speak. Really great photographers are few and between, and youll have to find the best to make this once in a lifetime shoot very worthwhile, indeed.
