Families Connecting With LeapFrog Connect

By Amy Richards

Leapfrog sells games for their devices according to age and grade level. This means that each child who uses a device may have lots of games, which makes it hard for parents to keep track of their progress. This doesn't have to be an issue anymore, though, with the use of a program called LeapFrog Connect. It lets you keep track of all games, devices and game results at the click of a mouse.

You don't have to buy a separate toy in order to use the program. It is a computer program that will install directly onto your computer. All you have to do is go to the official Leapfrog website and click on the Connect program. Join by creating an account then downloading the software directly to your computer.

After the download is complete, it is time to install the program. Once installed, the software will walk you through the process of setting up some custom feature that make the program very user-friendly. The next step is to walk around the house and get each device you wish to connect to the program and bring them to the computer.

In order for the software to keep tabs on each child's games, each game device must be connected to the program. This is very easy to do, and you only need a basic USB port to do it. Connect each device via USB and it will sync with the Connect program, allowing parents to keep track of each device.

Do the same for each device until they are all synced. Then, each time you login to the program, you can see every game a child plays on each device. This is an opportunity to see a child's progress in all subjects. For example, they may do really well on the reading games but not so well on math, which would be immediately obvious using the software.

Much like you might discuss homework with a child, discussion of the games they play can help them learn. When parents and children talk about learning progress and make a plan to help in problem areas, it sets the child up to succeed not only at their games but at all the lessons those games teach like science, math, reading comprehension and more.

The program also lets you keep track of a child's rewards that they receive by completing games and levels. Discussion of these rewards and the success they imply is a great way to interact with the child and celebrate their individual success and accomplishments. This helps bolster self esteem and gives them the confidence to continue playing and learning not just on their devices but in real life and at school as well.

The best thing about the LeapFrog Connect program is that children think they are just playing games, but they are really learning at the same time. Each game is designed to enhance what a child at that age is already learning in school. Enhancement and reinforcement of school lessons will improve academic success. All the while, parent and child get to work and play together, fostering better relationships at home. It really is a win-win situation for both parent and child.
