Tickets have been on sale since January for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - the UK's biggest cultural event. There are still a number of free performances and events available for audiences at this year's festival for those that missed the early start. We take a look at the free and non-ticketed events this year and pick out some of the best.
Unusual, shocking, and sometimes downright un-P.C. performances are incredibly popular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Gypsy Charms' Celebrity Dance-off is no different. You'll get to see the likes of Margaret Thatcher, David Beckham and Jesus Christ battling it out on the dance floor. The show offers an easy-going and entertaining break from the serious and depressing performances, although it's a bit more low-brow than the usual avant-garde shows on display at the Fringe.
From comedians to poets to actors, the PBH Free Fringe Festival organises a series of performances every year, which are free for everyone to enjoy at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The city will host 36 venues this year which promises to be the biggest yet. Head over to the London is Funny event at the Ciao Roma venue if you're feeling lucky, as it promises to host four of the world's best comics.
It's definitely worth a visit as previous performers have included Josh Widdecombe, Rufus Hound, and Paul Sinha. The identities of the performers are not revealed until the opening night though. Giving audiences plenty of opportunity to enjoy this event, it's held from Saturday August 4th until Saturday August 25th.
The Fringe crowds are sure to be anticipated by many hotels, but it's still not too late to find cheap hotels in the city. Ideal for those that are planning to stay for the entire festival, the Newtown Apartments offers accommodation for both short or long-stay visitors. Particularly useful for couples, the selection of rooms available consist of studios or one-bedroom apartments consisting of twin or double beds.
