Seating Plan: Tips for Making a Perfect Seating Arrangement for Your Party

By Joshua Nikenya

Due to a poor seating plan, a wedding can be called off because the parents of the new couple don't want to sit together. What if no one wants to sit next to a certain relative due to her strange smell and bad habits? Making a seating arrangement for big events can be stressing, but small events can also be stressful. Before making a seating arrangement, you've got to be patient and think a lot. Some of the tips that'll guide you when making a seating arrangement include:

1. If you're hosting a small dinner party and you want to give the host easy access to the food, make sure that she or he seats closest to the kitchen.

2. Consider all of the invited guests and their weird habits. Find out who will mingle with whom without quarreling. Don't put John the stirrer to sit next to opinionated Mary. Begin by making seating arrangements for the most important folks such as your boss and the guest of honor by making them seat next to the host.

3. Silent guests and newcomers should also sit next to the boss. By doing that, the host will include them in a conversation.

4. You can also try the idea of separating couples so that you create more time for the other guests. This way the singles will not feel isolated.

5. Try and sit each guest next to an individual he or she knows. This is the only way they're going to feel comfy. This seating plan will make the event a success.

6. If all of your guests get along, you can let them choose where they would like to sit. The idea of using place cards should enter your mind only if there are some guests who are difficult.

7. If the dinner party is bigger than a table, you can let the guests move seats. This arrangement will permit your guests to mix and they also will be able to move from one table to another.

8. If children are present in the party, you can set a separate table where they'll mingle with other kids. This arrangement will give parents a break while the children have a great time at the same time.

9. At big events like a marriage involving a wedding, you have to put the work colleagues in one table and the family members in another different table. If there are some members left out due to the table's holding capacity, consider if the guests are good at socializing and then put them on a table of people they are not familiar with.

10. Be gender sensitive when making the arrangements. And if there are old folks in the party, put them in a place where they can easily hear the speeches.

A perfect seating plan is one that has considered all of the social aspects. Bear in mind the ideas we have mentioned above. Get ready to be flexible and you've got to know that you won't please everybody in such gatherings.
