Proposing The Acceptance Of Marijuana Through The Grow Jamaica Movie

By Elena McDowell

The Grow Jamaica movie is based on a book written by co authors Leeroy Campbell and Janice Campbell. The book which serves as an inspiration for the film advocates the formal recognition of all the numerous benefits the plant has to offer. These benefits are hinted at on the text's front cover with the words, food, fuel fiber and medicine. The same arguments are used to advocate cannabis acceptance in the film.

The clout behind the film itself is reinforced by the caliber of its cast. It comprises the ideal mix of talent and fame. Some of the famous faces that appear in the film include Oliver Samuels, one of Jamaica's most celebrated actors, Stephen Marley, Reggae artist and son of the world famous Robert Nesta (or Bob) Marley and co author of the inspirational text Leeroy Campbell.

There is a wider campaign geared at raising awareness of the good things that can come from the plant. This campaign includes web promotion, musical promotion and written essays and texts. The film is one aspect of this broader campaign. It is an important phase though since it appeals to a wide variety of viewers in an age of viewing.

Weed, herb and sense are just three of the many names used for the plant. It is widely associated with Jamaican lifestyle even though the truth is it is illegal on the island. Many influential Jamaicans and laymen alike have been fighting to change this law. Key among this group are the members of the islands Rastafarian faith who use it for religious and ceremonial purposes.

The film's format is that of a realistic documentary and its format is designed to mirror the plant's diverse nature. It comprises snippets of humor and real life interviews gathering the thoughts of laymen as well as renowned scientists. Economists are also allowed the opportunity to share their opinions on the financial gains that the island stands to gain from capitalizing on the plant.

It is a one hour film which makes it fairly easy to watch. Additionally, it may be accessed on DVD. The DVD version is great for those who want to be able to view the documentary at their own convenience. Educators and marijuana promoters may also use it for its educational content.

The ultimate aim of the producers is to promote the realization of Dr. Leeroy Campbell's ideal revolution, envisioned and explored in his text. This revolution is geared at making the plant so much a part of life in the Jamaican society that it is freely produced and used. The dream is to see the plant de-shackled from the legal and social boundaries that currently exist.

The potential of the Grow Jamaica movie to change the way the world views marijuana cannot be denied. Those who view it with an open mind are bound to emerge with an inspired and refreshed views on the controversial herb. It is truly foremost among the most effective elements of the pro marijuana campaign.
