First of all, you need passion. Anyone who is in this field should have the passion to move forward. Passion is what makes it possible for people to pursue whatever it is that they love despite the hurdles and obstructions in their way. You have to nurture your own passion in this field. Remember your feelings the first time you held a camera.

You have to start with a plan. If you are really serious in starting a photography business, then you should consider all your circumstances and be apprehensive of future happenings. That way, you can pursue this business without having to lose anything. You have to go about this matter in a smart way.

A portfolio is a necessity for you. Thus, you need to learn how to build your portfolio. When building your portfolio, remember the motto quality over quantity. Instead of showing off a lot of pictures, it is better for you to show off a few pictures you took as long as they are good ones.

Consider renting your equipment first. There are lots of lenses that you will need but they are quite expensive. If you still cannot afford to purchase these lenses with your money, then you can just rent them. It is actually cheaper to rent them for a period of time compared to buying them outright.

Persistence is one of the keys to success. If you have decided on this kind of job, you should make sure to pursue it with all of your heart. Your success does not lie in your decision to pursue a career in this field. It will lie on how well you can stand up again when you face failures and how resilient you are to rejections.

You should always have a support system. The support system is necessary because they are the ones who will be supporting your emotions and your whole self in this risky times you are in. When you are faced with the problems and troubles of starting up this business, your support system will surely be of great help to you.

Your passion and private life are separate aspects but you should always have a healthy balance between the two. Just because you are passionate about your work does not mean that you will have to immerse yourself into it even when you are in the presence of your family who are not as passionate about photography as you are. Be aware of them.

Learn, learn, and learn. This type of job is a lifelong learning process. Just because you are successful already does not mean that your learning ends there. You will be learning a lot of stuff as you keep on clicking your shutter. Be open to the things that you might learn so that you can improve your skills.
