Life Experiences & Innate Skills Produce The Best Bosses

By Ingrid Bredenberg

Management is a vast area where three main people are relating to each other. The first person is the manager, the second one is a team of personnel and third one is the workplace together with the customer. What is the reason why managers need to practice the qualities of the hamsters? Are they going to put themselves inside a cage? Are they going to play on slides and tiny balls? Are they going to eat sunflower seeds and cheese curls? What do you mean when you say the word manager?

To tell you the truth, Mr. Sam Walton was a person behind those innovations and techniques in marketing and business retails. He was also the founder of giant industry Wal-Mart and produced small retail stores of K-Mart. He was one of the best examples of a wise manager and a customer at the same time. Do you know how? Actually, there was one point in his life that he had to do one crucial task in order to satisfy his curiosity. When he visited one branch of K-Mart, he took his voice recorder and camera with him. He captured every work that a team of employees did, recorded every loud noise and conversations of some personnel and observed what he did without their boss in charge.

He was then amazed about the workplace and said to the press "the management and delegation of the tasks are so impressive!" He also observed how people worked without assistance. Do you know why? It was because there was an equal delegation of work to each employee. The tasks were suitable with the personnel's' physical capabilities and abilities. When one interviewer asked him the purpose of the action, he promptly answered her with a smile "I want to know how this branch works and how great the management is." He did this for a purpose and not to pose a threat to each worker.

A manager should be like a hamster, a buddy that knows how to plan and save things for the future use. He should mimic its versatility to explore new things in limits. He should not gamble without brighter solutions when plan A fails. Frankly, being a manager is not an easy task. It has up and down sides. If you're not intelligent then there is no place for you to stay. If you prone to mistakes then you should learn from them and do better next time. If you failed once then try to step up and prove yourself.

What are managers? Are they born or made? Actually, they are molded individuals from novice workers. They did not get the position as fast as a rocket science. They worked hard for it. They are individuals governing a small group of personnel with a company. They are making decisions based on skills and not with instincts. They are providing rules for the benefit of all.
