Some Very Interesting Facts About Nelson Mandela

In history of African presidents, Mandela is known to be the only president who took the shortest term of presidency office by resigning when he felt there was need for someone else to take over the leadership. It is also a fact that he was one among those African presidents who took a large portion of his life in prison. There are numerous interesting facts that surround the life of Nelson Mandela.

Throughout his lifetime, Mandela was awarded numerous honours and awards. He was an honorary member of Manchester United, Honorary citizen of Canada and honorary member in British Labor Party. His name is known to have been used in a variety of instances including a nuclear particle (the Mandela particle) prehistoric woodpecker (the Aistralopicus nelsonmandelai) as well as an orchid (Paravanda Nelson Mandela).

Mandela was kicked out of school when he was studying in Fort Hare University when he tried to participate in a protest. Nevertheless, few years later Mandela joined Unisa University where he completed his degree. Mandela as well took his law degree in Wits University later in his life.

When serving his imprisonment term, Mandela is known to have been kept in a 2M by 2.5M sized chamber. This cubicle contained nothing more than a bucket for sanitation and bedroll on the ground. In his jail time, Mandela was banished to hard tasks for example working on a lime quarry. The court only allowed him to be receiving one later and visitors after six months.

Despite the fact that the apartheid government suggested to discharge Mandela for around six occasions when serving his jail term, he at all times opposed their offer. He always declined their offers by mentioning that even though he loved his freedom he favored their freedom more. This was meant to mean that there was no need for him to be freed when ANC was still banned since it stood for his Nation.

His birthday was the only date in history which United Nations dedicated as a celebration. The UN is known to have declared his birthday which is on July 18 as an international day. This means he was the first and the only person in history to have a name dedicated for celebration.

Other amazing facts about Mandela explain of his escape when he was being searched when he tried to fight for independence. For example, Mandela pretended himself to be a security guard in a mine, a chef boy and a chauffeur. Mandela also tried to change his name to David Motsamayi when he was trying to leave South Africa to other parts of Africa and England.

Throughout his life, Mandela had various funny and quite interesting facts some that have been pointed out above. These facts explain the life of Mandela during and after he became the first leader of South Africa. Besides these details Mandela has acquired plenty of recognition because of his effort to end the apartheid regime. His first wife, Winnie greatly supported him in his fight for South African freedom and was in many times arrested for trying to cover up her husband and the activities of the ANC freedom fighters.
