Awesome New Orleans Museums

New Orleans is an exciting and varied town that has a lot to offer travelers. Some of the high points include the historic French Quarter, busy Bourbon Street and of course the savory normal cuisine. Thanks to a mixing pot of cultures the city boasts several entrancing museums to help visitors better understand the local history, art and heritage. Here are simply a few of the top New Orleans museums.

Louisiana Children's Museum

While much of New Orleans appeals primarily to adults there is still plenty to enlighten and entertain younger children too. The Louisiana Children's Museum is probably one of the best New Orleans museums for families and it conveniently located in the Central Financial District simply a short walk from the French Quarter. Exhibits go from subjects like the human body and basic machinery to local subjects like the history of New Orleans or knowing how a port operates in coastal towns. Visit to familiarize youngsters with the excitement of New Orleans and to learn a couple of things at the exact same time.

Historic New Orleans Collection

Those interested in the history of New Orleans should look no farther than the Historic New Orleans Collection. This is an interesting way to better understand the way in which the town was shaped into what it is today. Exhibits cover the history of New Orleans, traditional furniture, clothing and even foods that were eaten centuries back in the town. Many visitors especially enjoy the scale models of the French Quarter observable over a period. This allows for a completely unique way to compare the shape and size of the town today and even 100 years back.

Audubon Nature Institute

This museum, science center and aquarium in the French Quarter is a great spots for both adults and children to learn lots more about the natural fauna in the area. Although much of the tourism in New Orleans is based on history, language, cuisine and culture the science aspect is also well thanks to the Audubon Nature Institute. A huge IMAX theater permits visitors to enjoy films on educational and entertaining subjects exploring the nature of New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole.

Mardi Gras World

There can be no denying that Mardi Gras is the most well liked and widely known event in New Orleans. To get a better notion of what these parties entail and how they came about consider a visit to Mardi Gras World, one of the top New Orleans museums. Take a close look at the hundreds of parade floats used in the many Mardi Gras parades each year and even take a tour of how they are made. Both children and adults will appreciate this destination.

Contemporary Arts Center

In the heart of the Central Financial District is probably one of the top museums in New Orleans for art. The Contemporary Arts Center boasts various exhibits from local artists as well as artists from across the world who have captured touching scenes on the roads of New Orleans.
